Designated driver? Check.
Refused roadside sobriety test? Check (and good for her!)
Woman incarcerated and blood test comes back 0.0? Check.
Falsifying a police report in a petty attempt to get revenge? Oh you’d better believe that’s a CHECK.

Turns out, Heather Squires’ husband – a lawyer – had just beaten Officer Gonzalez of the Mesa PD in court. So what does he do? He pulls her over (with him in the car) and decides to haul her in for DUI, stating that she had “bloodshot and watery eyes…Flushed face…Strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from breath.” Even after the blood test that she was forced to undergo came back with a blood alcohol level of 0.0, the Mesa Police Department is standing behind this “cop”.

Don’t like it? Why don’t you stop on by their website and tell them how you feel about this?

Here’s some more pertinent information:

Mesa Police Department
Internal Affairs
130 North Robson
Mesa AZ 85201-6697
480-644-5214

Mesa Police Chief George Gascón
480-644-2324

The officer’s name is Bond Gonzalez.
Detective Steve Berry, who is a spokesman for the department, stated that by refusing the field test, Heather Squires “forced” Gonzalez’s hand.

There are 9 results for “Steve Berry” in Tempe, AZ. If anyone knows which one of these is him, please let me know, and I’ll update the information here. Maybe “Detective” Berry needs to be reminded that Gonzalez was not forced to arrest Heather; SOP is to get a breathalyzer. You can refuse a field sobriety test (as they’re designed to be failed), but you are not allowed to refuse a breathalyzer. If she refused THAT, then Gonzalez would have had no choice but to arrest her.

Unfortunately, I cannot find any additional information about “officer” Bond Gonzalez. Will update when/if I do.

When is a scarf not a scarf? Well, when it’s a “traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad” of course. Sound ridiculous?

That’s because it is.

Recently, Dunkin’ Donuts yanked a proposed ad in which Rachel Ray wears a black and white paisley scarf because some right-wing whackjobs (I’m looking at you, Michelle Malkin) complained.

Dunkin’ Donuts, opting for the path of least resistance, voluntarily pulled the ad.

Quoth the harpy:

“Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons…It’s refreshing to see an American company show sensitivity to the concerns of Americans opposed to Islamic jihad and its apologists.”

You know what else would be refreshing, Michelle? Turning on the TV and seeing Fred the Baker taking a piss on your charred corpse*. Do the world a favor, Michelle – die slowly and painfully, k? Thanks.

* – yes, I know he’s dead.

Statisticians say that it takes 3 points to make a trend. We wrote about the first point. Now we have the 2nd point. One more, and it’s officially math.

Let me toss out the Cliff’s Notes for those who didn’t read the link above.

  1. Kid writes story
  2. Teacher “gets alarmed and disturbed by the content”
  3. Kid goes to jail

It wasn’t a story which included threats to anyone. It was just ‘disturbing’, and that’s all it takes to turn homework into a crime.

Let’s make this clear. What made it a crime is that the teacher was disturbed and alarmed. It has nothing to do with a clear & present threat. It has nothing to do with the intent of the author. It’s all about the reaction of the reader. So… If a teacher is a rabid supporter of PeTA, and a student writes a story about going to Smokey’s and having the most delicious petit fillet… he can be arrested? What about a teacher who has a phobia about spiders? Does the kid who writes about becoming an arachnologist get to do his studying from a jail cell?

Now… I was a student once… I was a teacher for a while… I was a drama and speech coach for a number of years… As I recall, high school students are required to read the classics of English and American literature. Are these teachers saying that The Telltale Heart–a story about a man who murders and dismembers another man, then stuffs him under the floorboards–is “good wholesome literature”, while the scribblings of some high school kid are worthy of a jail cell? George Orwell’s description a man threatening to let rats eat the face off of another man is not disturbing? I think Mr. Orwell would be mighty offended by that.

If all it takes to make a work of literature criminal is that one person is “disturbed and alarmed”, then we’d better start rounding up the authors. Edgar Allen Poe, JD Salinger, and George Orwell will top the list. They intentionally tried to alarm and disturb people–with malice-aforethought, and all that. Arthur Miller? Lock him up (he wrote about demonic possession and killing people–read The Crucible). Mark Twain? Lock him up (he wrote a story that made light of–perhaps even encouraged–cannibalism). Stephen King? Hell… call the Hague! He’s gotta qualify for Crimes Against Humanity for all the alarming and disturbing things he’s written.

Hmm… y’know… the article I’m writing in response to actually alarmed and disturbed me….

Can I get that journalist tossed in jail?

I’ve refrained from writing about the Virginia Tech shootings in my own blog for a variety of reasons. But this wonderful new site is just perfect for what I want to say. So….

Get over it!

“Oh no! Somebody shot somebody! Nobody is safe now!”

What happened is a tragedy. I don’t deny that. It has a major and lasting impact on those who were involved. The rest of you however? You’re nothing but entrail-sucking vultures. Or opportunistic parasites. Sit down and shut up.

I have a degree in theatre. I studied Aristotelian concepts of catharsis. I know that we all have a desire to look at the tragedy of others and, by doing so, understand that our own lives are rather okay. When that tragedy is performed on the stage, it’s okay for it to be extravagant. When it happens in real life…. it’s not. The networks had tell-all special reports on the air before the blood had even dried. Cameras were thrust in the faces of people whose ears still rung from the sound of gunshots. And you all just sat there and sucked it up. You beat your breasts and gnashed your teeth and wailed about the horror of it all–while you clamored for the media to continue to prod the wounds of the victims.

But worse than that, even, are the opportunistic parasites. The ones who see any tragic event–no matter the scale–as a reason to scream out just how unsafe we all are, and how they can make us safe–if we just give up a little more freedom, and give them just a little more power.

Let me clue you in on something. You’re not safe. You’re never safe. This psycho attacked a college. An earlier one picked a church. The next one might choose a shopping mall. Or a parade. Or a concert.

You can’t predict where it will happen. You can’t stop it.

Maximum security prisons are some of the most secure, regimented, strictly-enforced environments there is. People still get killed. If you can’t prevent a murder in a locked-down building where people are kept in cells, watched 24/7, subject to random searches, and (supposedly) prevented from getting close to any dangerous weapons, do you really think that you can stop it on an open campus of 20 or 50 thousand people?

Israel has some of the strictest policing in the world. The army walks the streets with automatic weapons and the authority to kill on sight any potential threats. They fire missiles at people within their own borders. They assassinate suspected criminals to prevent and deter further violence. And they have suicide bombers blowing up discos, cafes and buses.

You are never safe.

Let me repeat that. You are never safe. No amount of sacrificed freedoms or abdicated sovereignty will change that. And yet you keep throwing away your freedom and giving away your power, don’t you? You keep wailing at the horrors around you like little girls, and looking to Daddy to protect you. You lock yourself in a cage to keep out the ‘bad men’ and throw away the key, not realizing that you’ve made yourself an easy target. You gag yourself so the ‘bad men’ can’t hear you, not realizing that you’ve prevented yourself from calling for help. You hand a loaded gun to Daddy and beg him to protect you, not realizing that he’s pointing the muzzle right at your head.

You want to be safe? Stand up for yourself and fight.

If, instead, you choose to hand over all your power and freedom in the hopes that someone else will protect you…. you deserve whatever happens to you.
